Why is weight loss so hard, when the actual process of achieving our goals is actually very simple? I believe the answer to this question lies in our mindset. In order to achieve long-lasting weight loss results, we need to have our expectations checked.
Let me break down a few of the concepts that I feel can help make the weight loss journey less complicated and more doable.
1 – Focus On Habit and NOT Motivation
I think one of the biggest issues I see with people diving into a weight loss journey is their focus on motivation. Don’t get me wrong. Motivation is HUGE, and I need boosts of it regularly to keep going in various areas of my life. I get boosts of inspiration by reading books and listening to podcasts or speakers that can help comfort me.
And while we often seek motivational boosts when it comes to weight loss, the actual long-lasting success shedding off pounds comes to those who treat it as a habit.
What do I mean by habit? Compare it to taking a shower or going to work. You don’t take a shower when you’re motivated. You take a shower out of habits that you’ve developed. If you don’t take a shower, you’re going to smell bad, and other undesirable consequences will result from it.
When it comes to weight loss, we need to develop habits that we stick to and follow daily. This way, we are far less likely to stay down when things get tough.
2 – Understand Calories and Forget Carbs
Many people are under the impression that carbs are the devil and cause us to pack on pounds of unwanted fat. I was in that boat for years and avoided carbs like the plague. I restricted myself to the point where I really wasn’t enjoying any of the meals I ate.
Everything changed when I came to learn that weight loss is really just a math equation. It’s all about eating at a calorie deficit. This way, you have complete control. You can lose weight or pack on pounds, based on the number of calories you put into your body. It’s really that simple.
However, many of us get caught up in the idea that carbs are terrible, and we are suddenly clouded by this idea, and embark on a diet. This is why so many diets fail.
We hit many more roadblocks on our way to lose unwanted fat. But the answer is simple. Just understand calorie consumption and implement a simple strategy into your daily life to lose the weight you want for good.
That link will show you how to lose 4 – 5 pounds per month easily. If you have more than 20 pounds to lose, you’ll lose a bit more weight more quickly.
3 – Tons Of Cardio Is NOT How You Lose Weight
It came as a shock to me when I learned that cardio is NOT how you lose unwanted fat. This is coming from a guy who used to go to Orange Theory and Kickboxing classes. I used to sweat myself to death doing Beachbody’s Insanity workouts in my living room, and for years I would job 6 days a week.
But guess what? There’s another form of exercise that is so much simpler, laid back, and dare I say, more effective at burning off unwanted pounds.
I burned off more unwanted fat in a shorter amount of time than I ever did before, by doing one simple exercise every day.
Weight Loss Difficulties In Summary
So, when we ask ourselves, “why is weight loss so hard?”, I truly believe it boils down to our mindset and understanding of weight loss in general.
This article was focused on giving you some quick tips on how you can start focusing on the right things to really start seeing results in the mirror in a matter of months.
1 – Focus on forming new habits. Let go of the idea that motivation alone can help you achieve long-lasting weight loss results. While motivation is important, it’s not the reason you brush your teeth every day. Habit is the reason for this, and it’s exactly how we need to treat weight loss.
2 – We don’t need to run far from carbs. In fact, carbs are delicious, and you’ll lose weight just the same, whether restricting carbs from your diet or choosing to eat a McDonald’s cheeseburger. Understand the concept of calories, and implement a deficit into your life. You WILL lose weight.
3 – Traditional cardio is not the answer to weight loss, even though for years, I believed it was. In fact, really intense cardio can cause us to become ravenously hungry and overeat. This defeats the entire purpose of developing healthy eating habits. So, i’ve come to love a far more laid-back exercise that does wonders for stripping off unwanted fat.
