Can you lose weight by walking daily? The answer is a resounding yes! What’s funny is I never would have believed it myself, for years. I remember seeing couples power walking down the street as a kid, and I always thought it was kind of a funny sight.

And now, here I am, walking 10,000 steps every single day. I’ve abandoned all cardio that I ever used to do. From kickboxing to jogging 6 days a week, it’s no longer a part of my life. I used to do Beachbody’s Insanity 5 days a week, and I dreaded waking up every one of those mornings because I knew how brutal the workouts would be.

And here’s what’s so interesting about those days when I practically destroyed myself in these intense cardio workout routines. I didn’t ever lose significant fat. I always looked in the mirror and had this soft skinny fat body that I couldn’t figure out how to tighten up and get defined.

Then, one day, I just started walking daily. It takes me about an hour and a half to hit 10,000 steps a day, and it’s absolutely worth it. How on earth is it possible to get into better shape just walking every single day than it is by doing intense cardio workouts that wipe you out?

I’ve noticed that it takes me about 90 minutes to hit a total of 10,000 steps a day. When the weather gets cold, I use my treadmill and get work done simultaneously online. On nice days, I go for a meditative morning walk and hit 4,000 – 5,000 steps.

So, it’s nice to break them up throughout the day. It makes the entire activity just feel laid back and almost like you’re not even doing much. This is one of the main reasons I feel that walking daily is so effective for fat loss. It simply doesn’t feel like you’re exercising and burning off fat, but you are.

Walking Reduces Hunger Cravings

The problem with a lot of intense cardio workouts is that they work us up so much that we become ravenously hungry afterward. This can easily cause us to overeat on calories, which ultimately ruins the fitness goals we have for ourselves.

I used to overeat in the middle of the night in my sleep, and I have no doubt this had something to do with the fact that I was so strictly trying to follow a cardio workout routine, and deep down, I felt that I deserved more food.

What ended up happening is I’d overeat in my sleep, and sabotage all the efforts I made during the day. So, each and every morning, I’d feel like crap because my body felt bloated, and then I wouldn’t be hungry for hours.

I no longer have issues with night eating. This could also be due to the fact that I now incorporate intermittent fasting into my life, but certainly, the elimination of intense cardio has helped.
