Best Tasting Whey Protein – Chalk Be Gone!

Just a few of my Groupon purchases of this stuff!

Of all the different brands I’ve tried over the years, I have to say that the best-tasting whey protein I’ve had is Classic AllWhey by Allmax.

Obviously, this entire article is just my opinion and there very well may be other whey proteins out there that totally blow this one away for various reasons.  But I haven’t deviated from this brand in a super long time.  The funny thing is I discovered it totally by accident when I was looking for a deal in Groupon, which is where I had been making my whey protein purchases for years, and now that I think about it, that is kind of odd, considering I do almost all my purchases on Amazon.

When I saw a crazy discount for this particular protein, I decided to step away from the brand I had grown accustomed to prior to, for a few reasons.  But one of them was that you’re getting a way better deal for a 5-pound container of whey protein than you are for a 2-pound bag.  And I guess, more importantly, the specific discount Groupon had on AllMax that day was too good to pass up.

So, I decided to get it.  The funny thing is I literally JUST checked my Groupon account, and I see that I’ve ordered this exact protein 13 times!  And the only reason that number isn’t higher is cause it was discontinued from Groupon, so I moved over to Amazon and continued purchasing it from there.  Prior to this brand, I was purchasing Muscletech Premium Whey protein, which I always thought was good.  I wasn’t really sold on any particular brand prior to this, and I stuck with Muscletech cause I thought it tasted good.  But here’s why I won’t go back to any other brand now.

Here are the details:

  • Product: Allmax Classic AllWhey Protein
  • Price: $44.99 (retail)
  • Cheapest Place To Buy: Amazon
  • Size Of Container: 5 lbs
  • My Rating: 9.5 out of 10

AllWhey Tastes Pretty Amazing

The funny thing is, I thought Muscletech Whey Protein that I used to buy before this was good.  But that’s the problem.  Who wants good when you can have great?  And, I can’t think of anyone who actually buys whey protein just cause they think tastes amazing.  I personally buy it cause I want an after workout drink that has high-quality protein in it.

But I wasn’t expecting it to actually taste amazing.  And, let me just say that I’m referring specifically to the cookies & cream and also chocolate peanut butter flavors, which, saying it now, sounds a bit odd.  At least, I wouldn’t think a flavor like Chocolate Peanut Butter would taste amazing, but this brand does something right with it.

Also, what I do is mix it into a blender with a banana, berries, and a glass of milk.  I swear when it’s all mixed like that, it’s seriously heavenly, to the point where I find myself making protein shakes on days that I don’t even work out also.

I DID recently buy Strawberry flavor because it was on a sale on Amazon for almost $10 cheaper than the other flavors, and it’s good.  But it’s definitely not as good as the other flavors mentioned above.

No Chalky Nastiness

The funny thing is that the protein I was buying before AllMax was MuscleTech, and I stuck with them cause I thought they tasted good and didn’t really have that chalky flavor you get with a lot of other brands of protein.

And then I got AllWhey, and it was just a game-changer cause there is zero chalky flavors, unless I’m totally nuts.  I don’t taste it at all.  It just tastes like a delicious shake.  That’s it!

I do remember one day, for a reason I can’t remember exactly why, but I couldn’t get my AllWhey!  It was out of stock so, I resorted back to MuscleTech, probably vanilla or chocolate flavor, and man, it’s crazy.  Like once you’ve had Classic AllWhey for months on end, and then you go back to a brand that you had previously, you can absolutely taste a difference.  I could absolutely taste that chalkiness with MuscleTech, and that was the brand I was used to buying prior to AllWhey.

Never again will I go back to another brand, unless you can outdo the flavor of AllWhey.

BTW, I don’t know about AllMax’s OTHER Whey proteins.  I know they have different kinds, but the only one I’ve ever tried is specifically AllMax Allwhey Classic.

It’s Got Great Ingredients

I’m just gonna go ahead and steal this directly off their Amazon page.  But you’re getting 30 grams of high-quality whey protein in every scoop.  There aren’t any non-protein aminos in it, and there aren’t any inferior non-whey protein sources.  They claim to have zero fillers.  Apparently, there are other brands that use fillers and non-whey protein sources.

Good Value For What You Get

The reason I was buying this protein on Groupon, is cause I always felt I was getting a great deal for a 5-pound container, which would last me about 2 months.  I’m not sure exactly why Groupon discontinued it, but I’ve continued making my purchases on Amazon.  The great thing about the switch is that it arrives way more quickly than it did when I went the Groupon route.  And I still can’t figure out exactly why I kept going to Groupon to buy this so many times, cause when I look at the price I’m paying on Amazon, it’s really not much more at all.  I spend about $44 for a 5-pound container.  Sometimes it’s a little more, and sometimes a little less, which depends, cause Amazon has random deals.

Final Verdict On Best Whey Protein

As I was writing this article, I went to Amazon to check reviews on this protein, and it’s got an overall rating of 4 and a half stars, but there ARE people who think it’s chalky and disgusting.  But in my own personal experience with this brand, it tastes amazing, and it’s way better than other brands I’ve tried before.  When I mix it in a blender with milk and fruit, it’s simply incredible.  Lately, I’ve been adding mango, bananas, blueberries, strawberries, and other fruits into the mix to test out different kinds of shakes, and they’re all pretty awesome.

Hope this review and my opinion on this protein were helpful.  It’s the best-tasting whey protein I’ve personally had up until now, and who knows when something new will come along and change my mind.  But for now, I’m sticking with this, cause I love it!  Thanks for reading and if you’ve got any questions or comments, I’d love to hear them, thank you!

  1. I’ve been a big fan of protein powders, having a protein shake for breakfast for so many years that I can’t even count them. Can’t really imagine any other breakfast. I add flax seeds or chia seeds to it to have some healthy fatty acids and some fiber in it as well.

Just like you, I’ve tried many proteins. Some of them have such an unnatural taste that I had problems to finish the pack off. I’m not too picky but too much is too much.
I have now a protein powder I’m quite happy with but this one is really tempting, I’ll have to give it a try! The chocolate peanut butter flavor sounds good to me.

    1. Hey Lenka – thanks for your comment!  Now that you mention flax seeds, I used to do that too!  I loved it!  I’d really love to know which protein it is that you use.  I’m all about trying something new.  It’s just this one in particular I’ve decided to stay with cause the taste is just great.

      1. The protein I use is called Prom-In Essential CFM Evolution but I think it’s only sold in the country I live in, which is the Czech Republic, Europe. It’s high-quality with proteolytic enzymes and I really like the taste.
But just like you, I like trying new things, and your protein sounds really good, especially the chocolate peanut butter flavor.

        1. Hey again Lenka – I just looked up your protein and you’re right, it doesn’t seem to be sold in USA. I found the website for the company but I can’t order it on amazon for instance. They have pistachio flavor! That sounds awesome! That’s my favorite flavor of ice cream actually. It looks like your protein also has 30 grams of protein per serving, which is exactly what I look for too…however, I don’t know if I’m looking at the right numbers. Yeah, I love the peanut butter chocolate flavor of mine…I also noticed that it mixes better with milk and fruit than the Strawberry flavor. If I get a chance to actually order your protein here in the USA though, I will definitely do it!
