11 Body Image Positive Affirmations – Fuel Your Mind

Sometimes we need body image positive affirmations to help us overcome negative thinking about how we look. It’s very easy to get down on ourselves and become overly critical about how we appear in the mirror. I know for me, if I don’t monitor myself, it can become obsessive and unhealthy.

Depending on the mirror I’m standing in front of, the lighting of the room, the time of day, whether I ate a huge dinner or not, or what the scale tells me on any particular day, I’ll have a completely different perception of my body. Sometimes I just get down on myself. Sometimes I’m the complete opposite.

These affirmations can help us eliminate negative thinking. I know for sure that it can feel incredibly lonely on a path where you’re so determined to make a change with your body, and feel good about yourself along the way.

The bright side is as you make progress towards your fitness goals, you’re going to be an inspiration for so many other people. And on your way to those goals you’re setting for yourself, I feel that positive body image affirmations can often give you the fuel to keep going.

Here are 11 positive body image affirmations that I hope inspire you. I searched through various websites and hand-picked them because they spoke to me, and I hope they resonate with you too. I’ve personally found that reciting positive affirmations in the morning can help set you up for a good day. Here are the affirmations in no particular order.

Positive Affirmation #1

  • ACCEPTING MYSELF AS I AM RIGHT NOW IS THE FIRST STEP IN GROWING AND EVOLVING

I believe it’s very important that we put in the work to accept ourselves just as we are. I realize this is not an easy task, and we have to work hard overcome mental barriers that stop us from accepting ourselves.

But the fact that we aren’t perfect is what makes us unique to everyone else in the world. I truly believe that we start to grow in ways we never expected when we can overcome this barrier. We stop seeking approval from others, and start to be proud of ourselves regardless of anyone else’s opinions. Daily meditation is a great first step to finding acceptance within.

Positive Affirmation #2

  • MY BODY DESERVES LOVE AND RESPECT

In order for us to develop a positive body image, we have to treat our bodies with love and respect. This requires daily care and maintenance, from eating right, to proper exercise.

Making the decision to start treating our bodies with kindness is the very first step.

Positive Affirmation #3

  • TAKING CARE OF MYSELF FEELS GREAT

It’s amazing how great it feels to actually take good care of your body. All you have to do is start. By simply making the decision to be mindful of the foods you eat or go for a walk every day, your mental state will begin to shift, as these lifestyle changes become daily habits.

Research suggests it takes 21 days to develop a habit. Walking is one of the simplest and most powerful exercises you can do for weight loss.

Positive Affirmation #4

  • I EAT A VARIETY OF FOODS FOR MY HEALTH, WEALTH, AND ENJOYMENT

I think it’s very important to allow yourself to eat the foods you love. You can absolutely do this while losing weight. I started to become kinder to my body when I stopped restrictive dieting and started eating the foods that I wanted to eat.

You can do it too. Learn more about how to eat the foods you love while still losing weight right here.

Positive Affirmation #5

  • I’M COMFORTABLE IN MY OWN SKIN

I work on this one every single day and sometimes the anxiety demons take over. When I feel like hiding away from the world because I’ve lost all confidence, I just know deep down that this will pass. It’s temporary, and as long as we are consciously working on ourselves daily, we are making progress.

You won’t feel the same way tomorrow as you feel today, and that’s alright. Our progress will never be a straight line. It’s a bumpy road and the fact that you’re traveling down it is braver than so many others who are afraid to begin.

You are more comfortable in your own skin by many others simply by reading this article and taking the time to understand your own emotions.

Positive Affirmation #6

  • YOU CAN’T HATE YOURSELF INTO A VERSION THAT YOU LOVE

Hate breeds more hate, which breeds even more negative energy into your life. And what’s left is a big ball of sadness, anger, resentment, and other horrible emotions. You cannot love yourself when you focus on all that is wrong.

Try instead to accept where you are, and think of ways to make improvements in specific areas of your body. Taking one step towards making an improvement, even in one area, will breed positive thinking which will lead to positive actions, which will get you results.

Positive Affirmation #7

  • I TAKE CARE OF MY BODY BY DOING ________.

I really love this one cause it keeps you accountable by having to fill in that blank. This will be different for you than it is for me. A great idea for this one is to post it up on your bedroom wall where you can see it every single morning when you wake up and at night when you go to sleep.

I personally take care of my body by doing intermittent fasting combined with a simple eating plan every day that I love. I also take care of my body by doing body weight workouts 3 days a week and walking every day.

How about you? What do you do to take care of your body? When you write this out and look at it every day, you’ll always know what it is that you should be doing to take care of your body on a daily basis. I think this one can really help you develop positive habits for a good body image.

Positive Affirmation #8

  • I’M NOT GOING TO SACRIFICE MY MENTAL HEALTH TO HAVE A PERFECT BODY

This was really hard for me for a very long time. I was always unhappy with my body, and it was taking a toll on me emotionally. What worked for me was throwing out the restrictive lifestyle I used to live, which included intense cardio 5 days a week and very restrictive low carb dieting.

I found a much simpler way to live life. You can learn more about the exercises I do here, and the eating plan I follow here. But even having dropped 13 pounds and lost significant body fat, it’s important to always be in charge of my mind.

Our minds can very easily take over and make us start to criticize our bodies, regardless of what shape we get into. So much of our body image battle is in our minds, and we need to put effort into not letting negative thinking overtake us.

Positive Affirmation #9

  • MY BRAIN IS MY SEXIEST BODY PART

In my own opinion, the brain is the sexiest part of anyone’s body. Show people who you are and share the unique things about you with them. There is nothing more attractive to me than an intriguing conversation with someone. Hitting your fitness goals will just be an bonus.

Positive Affirmation #10

  • MY BODY IS GETTING LEAN, FIT, & TIGHT

Embedding this into your mind is important. It is happening, and just trust the process of taking baby steps towards your fitness goals. You’d be amazed at the difference you can see in the mirror in only a few months and sometimes even weeks.

Positive Affirmation #11

  • TAKE IT ONE DAY AT A TIME

No two days will be the same. This isn’t a perfect path from hating your body to suddenly loving it. Embarking on a journey to get fit is a bumpy one that many people never even attempt, so you should be proud with making that decision.

Even though you may not notice it at first, as long as you’re working on yourself daily taking baby steps, you are making progress, and you WILL notice changes in the long run. At the same time, you’ll start to feel good about yourself and the efforts you’re putting into your life to make changes.

True change comes to those who understand that it takes one day at a time to make a difference. It takes perseverance and a believing that a transformation is happening, even if you can’t physically see it right away.

No miracle can happen overnight, but over the course of time, it’s amazing what you can accomplish. All you have to do is get started, and take your journey one day at a time. Have fun with it. Take breaks, and accept your faults. We are human.
